Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Buy American Act mean?

The Buy American Act is a federal procurement rule that generally prefers domestic end products and domestic construction materials for covered government purchases. For PVF sourcing, this can affect what documentation is required and which products qualify depending on the project and procurement rules.

What is the difference between Buy American and Buy America?

Buy American typically applies to federal government purchasing, while Buy America is commonly tied to federally funded infrastructure programs and can carry different domestic content requirements. What qualifies as a domestic product?

“Domestic” can mean different things depending on the governing requirement (Buy American vs Buy America vs other project rules). Qualification often depends on where manufacturing occurs, how domestic content is calculated, and what supporting documentation is required for the bid or submittal.

What does TAA compliance mean?

TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliance generally relates to whether products meet trade agreement requirements for certain government procurements.
